For the first time: Danish embassy takes part in Capital Pride

In a joint group with the other Nordic embassies in Ottawa, the Danish Embassy joined for the first time along with other newcomers including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chief of the Defence Staff General Vance in a show of support for equality.
The pride parade in Ottawa 2017 was a fantastic party and celebration of diversity. Sunday the 27th august the streets filled with cheerful people, music and rainbow colours parades were down and hearts open.

Denmark for equality
The Danish Embassy walked in the parade along with Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland carrying the long banner with the message: “Nordics for equality” showing our support for the pride.

The Danish embassy embraced the opportunity to support the Ottawa parade and show that the Danish government is prioritizing LGBT+. Just this Thursday the Danish government announced the development of a new action plan to ensure safety, well-being and equal opportunities for LGBT+ persons.

Scandi playlist was a hit
For the occasion of the joint Nordic initiative the embassies had created a Scandinavian party playlist. We were playing dance friendly scandi hits through the entire parade. Popular Danish Artists like MØ, Lukas Graham and Aqua were of course among the songs and made thousands of spectators and as well as our parade neighbours from the EU-delegation and the UK embassy dance along.
