Denmark and Canada among the most peaceful countries in the world

In general, the world is marginally more peaceful than the year before, the index shows by measuring 158 countries on 23 indicators.

Canada rises from the number 8 slot in 2011 to number 4 in 2012 partly due to fewer casualties in external conflicts.

Denmark’s rise from 4 to 2 is explained by a low number of inmates, reduction in military spending and low rates of violent crime and homicide among other indicators.
