Canada rises from the number 8 slot in 2011 to number 4 in 2012 partly due to fewer casualties in external conflicts.
Denmark’s rise from 4 to 2 is explained by a low number of inmates, reduction in military spending and low rates of violent crime and homicide among other indicators.
