Danish architects contribute to Vancouver skyline with Beach and Howe Tower

The Danish group of architects and designers BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group - has been commissioned by Canadian real estate developer Westbank to contribute to the Vancouver skyline with a new tower.

BIG’s proposal, named after its location on the corner of Beach and Howe next to the Granville Street Bridge in downtown Vancouver, will become one of the city’s fourth tallest towers at 490 feet tall and will include 600 residential units. Westbank hopes the tower will create a dramatic gateway to downtown Vancouver.

“Vancouver has already embarked upon an urban experiment in creating a super dense residential downtown – to increase pedestrian activity and street life. With this project we attempt to continue this process of densification by reclaiming a site beneath the bridges that would otherwise be lost as a lifeless “black hole” in the urban fabric” says Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner of BIG about the Beach and Howe Tower project.
