Step 2: Collect Documents

It is important that all documents are included when you submit your application. Any missing documents must be submitted within 5 calendar days of your initial date of application.

Should you have questions regarding the visa application process after reading the information available on this website, please contact VFS Global directly at:

1-866-978-5904

To book an appointment, please use the online booking module.

If travelling as part of a group, each individual application must be complete with its own copies of hotel bookings, invitations, insurance policies, etc. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that a complete application is submitted.

Please note that the travel dates on all of your documents must match (on the Visa Self Service cover letter, in your invitation and on your travel medical insurance).

Please note that documentation is accepted only in the following languages:
  • English
  • Danish
  • Norwegian
  • Swedish

Documentation in French is unfortunately not accepted.

Documentation cannot be older than three months, based on your arrival date in Schengen area. Bank statements must always be for the most recent 90 consecutive days you have received.

Please select the checklist that matches the purpose of your visit and make sure you collect all the mandatory documents before you continue to Step 3:

If you have had your biometrics recorded within the last 59 months with the specific purpose of obtaining a Schengen visa, we may be able to reuse the fingerprints for a new application.

Please send us an email and include your name, date of birth, country of citizenship, the passport number and/or the visa sticker number for which you believe your biometrics were recorded for.

In rare cases, it is not possible to import the biometrics, even if they are present in the system. If you mail in your application and we are not able to locate your biometrics, a personal appearance will be mandatory.

If mailing in your application to VFS, please include the following items in addition to the documentation listed on the appropriate checklist above:

  • One up-to-date passport photo of yourself.
  • A copy of the visa sticker your biometrics were previously recorded for.
  • Completed Contact Information Sheet, which can be downloaded here.

If you are unsure if you have had your biometrics recorded for a Schengen visa already, please send us an email and include your name, date of birth, country of citizenship, the passport number and/or the visa sticker number for which you believe your biometrics were recorded for.

If you mail your application to the Embassy and we are not able to locate your biometrics, a personal appearance will be mandatory.

Continue to Step 3 once you have collected all of your documentation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please be advised that the total process for obtaining a visa consists of several parts:

  • It can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS for submitting your application.
  • Once your application arrives at the Embassy, the processing time begins. The processing time varies depending on the current workload. Please see the front page for the current processing time.
  • Included in the overall handling time is also the shipping of your documents from VFS to the Embassy as well as the return from the Embassy to you.

The processing times may be longer than this during peak travel season (May, June, July, August and December) due to case volume or if cases require further scrutiny.

Please note that neither the Embassy nor our consulates can be held responsible for technical difficulties, human errors or shipping delays in the processing of passports, permits and visa applications.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to apply in time for the intended departure.

For passports: 5 weeks prior

For permits: 3 months prior

For visas: 1 to 3 month prior is recommended.
