Should you have questions regarding the visa application process after reading the information available on this website, please contact VFS Global directly at:
Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 11am to 3pm.
Did you remember to print your receipt from the Visa Self Service Portal? This receipt serves as proof of payment for your visa and without it your application is not admissible. If you do not bring this to your appointment, your application will not be accepted.
Three Tier Processing Time
You can apply for a visa 3 months prior to your intended departure date. The Embassy strongly recommends that you take advantage of this and ensure that you plan to apply at least 1 month prior to departure for the following reasons:
Appointment with VFS:
Please note that according to the Schengen Visa Code, Article 9, 2 the deadlines for obtaining an appointment shall as a rule not exceed two weeks. However, during peak season applicants may not be able to obtain an appointment with VFS until the 14th day. It is the applicant’s responsibility to take the necessary precautions to allow for sufficient time to obtain an appointment with VFS prior to the departure date. The Embassy cannot assist you with obtaining an appointment with VFS or cancelling and re-scheduling an appointment.
Visa Processing time:
The Embassy retains the right to a 15 calendar day processing time upon receipt of the visa applications from the VFS Visa Application Centre, not when the application is launched online or the day it is submitted to VFS. As an example, if your appointment with VFS is on a Friday, your application will most likely be received at the Embassy the following Monday, which is when the processing time starts. An application lodged less than 15 calendar days before the intended departure will be accepted by VFS if an applicant insists on handing it in, but the final decision might be taken by the Embassy after the intended date of departure, particularly during peak season. If further scrutiny of an application is required, then processing time can be extended up to 60 days.
It generally takes 1-3 days for an application to reach the Embassy (please consider weekends and holidays), 15 days of processing and 1-3 days for a passport to be returned from the Embassy. The shipping time is NOT included in the 15 day processing time.
Please retain the tracking information provided by VFS as the Embassy does not store this information.
Communication regarding your visa application with the Embassy is available exclusively via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). All phone communication must go through VFS Global at 1-866-978-5904.
Want a Status Update?
You can pay for SMS passport tracking at VFS. This service will let you know when your passport is mailed back.
Please note that neither the Embassy nor VFS will provide any further status updates within the normal processing time, nor is it possible to request expedited processing of your application, unless you are applying for a visa based on humanitarian grounds, such as an illness or death in the family, which has to be documented.
All information regarding the application process is contained within the visa section of this website.
When you have submitted your application online, please book an appointment at one of the VFS Global centres, located in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.
Please note that when booking an appointment online, it will be at a VFS Global Centre, not at the Embassy or any of our consulates.
Please consult your appointment confirmation for the address.
Please do not show up for your appointment more than 10 minutes in advance.

If you have had your biometrics recorded within the last 59 months with the specific purpose of obtaining a Schengen visa, we may be able to reuse the fingerprints for a new application.
You can mail your name, date of birth, country of citizenship, the passport number and/or the visa sticker number for which you believe your biometrics were recorded for. We will then check the availability in our system.
In rare cases, it is not possible to import the biometrics, even if they are present in the system. If you mail in your application and we are not able to locate your biometrics, a personal appearance will be mandatory.
Please mail your application to Vancouver if you are a resident in the following provinces:
Please mail your application to Ottawa if you are a resident in the below provinces.
If you mail your application to the Toronto office, please be advised that it will be forwarded to the Ottawa office, which will cause an additional delay due to shipping.
Newfoundland & Labrador
Prince Edward Island
Biometrics recorded for residence permits of Schengen member states, Canadian or US visas and similar cannot be used for a Schengen visa.
If you are mailing your application to VFS, please include the following items in addition to the documentation listed on the appropriate checklist in Step 2:
Would you like case processing times to be reduced?
The consular officers spend a significant amount of time answering emails. We therefore ask you to please not contact us in order to check the status of your application, unless the current processing time (15 days) and shipping time (an additional 1-3 days) has been exceeded.
You are also encouraged to read through the visa pages on our website, including the document checklists, before contacting us for assistance, as both resources contain detailed information about the process. This way we can focus on case processing and expedite a higher volume of cases in less time.
Your application will not be processed faster if you contact us often.
For questions regarding the application process and documentation requirements, please contact VFS Global for assistance.
