By Hlynur Pálmason, 2017 | 94 minutes

Emil is a barely tolerated outsider in the isolated chalk-mining town where he and his more respectable brother, Johan, work and live. Over the course of a long winter Emil becomes increasingly unhinged, and engrossed in surreal and violent fantasies. After a fellow worker falls ill, Emil and the homemade booze he makes with stolen chemicals are blamed, building on the mounting tension between him and the rest of the community. Praised for its chilling character study and strikingly textured visuals from cinematographer Maria von Hausswolff, Winter Brothers has been an official selection of over a dozen film festivals worldwide, and has marked director Hlynur Pálmason as a talent to watch.

The screening in Ottawa is on November 27th  at Ottawa Art Gallery at 7pm. You can buy tickets here

The screening in Vancouver is on December 1st  at The Cinematheque at 8.15 pm. Get your tickets here.
