European Union Film Festival

The Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa, the European Union Film Festival in Toronto, and The Cinematheque in Vancouver have joined forces with the Delegation of the European Union and the Embassies and Consulates of EU Member States to present the first-ever online edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) in Canada.
The programme includes an exclusive collection of recent films from across the European Union. Denmark will present Before the Frost by director Michael Noer, a film-noir movie set in the 1850’s rural countryside of Denmark.
As winter approached in rural 1850s Denmark, and old farmer, Jens, and his family face starvation. With the harsh circumstances and the prospect of yet another tough winter, Jens agrees to ally with the neighbouring family in a marriage between his daughter and their son. However, when the rich farmer at a nearby farm wants to buy Jens’s land, he sees the chance to provide him and his family with an even better life.
