Internship opportunities at TC North America

The Trade Council (TC Canada) is part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. TC North America’s mandate is to assist Danish companies in expanding or initiating business activities in the North American market. We partner with companies from the Kingdom of Denmark in a variety of activities ranging from e.g. developing market analysis and entry strategies to partner and customer searches. PR-activities, recruiting, creating events and delegation as well as first line sales efforts are also among our many different tasks.

Internship 2021

The Danish Trade Council is looking for new interns to join our teams across North America: Toronto, Chicago, Houston, New York, and Washington D.C. from August 1, 2021. Are you interested in politics, economics, trade, communication or culture?

1. Green Buildings Advisory & District Energy Advisory 

The Position 
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified intern to assist the Green Buildings Advisory & District Energy Advisory team in Toronto. You will be an integrated part of the team’s daily work, and will be an important contributor on relevant projects. You will get a wealth of experience in the development of business strategies for Danish companies interested in expanding their business activities to Canada, as well as Canadian companies with interest in investing in Denmark. 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to: 
- Participate in and support the daily work of the office 
- Support general and sector-specific internal and external communications (e.g. Facebook & LinkedIn posts)
- Support Sustainable Buildings Advisory & District Energy Advisory by carrying out the following activities (varies depending on sector and project):
   - Desk and field research
   - Meeting planning and support (virtual and/or in-person)
   - Preparation of offers and market reports
   - Partner searches and preparation of Danish trade delegations
   - Participation in fairs
   - Event management

The Candidate
- Must currently be enrolled in a Danish educational program with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree (preferably Business Admin. and/ or Communications)
- Interest in urbanism, green building, and/or Danish energy and environment is an asset
- Outspoken, engaged and a good team player
- Strong work ethic and can work well independently and within a team
- Strong experience in Word, Excel & PowerPoint
- Strong social skills and outgoing personality preferred
- As an office we are measured on activities, customer satisfaction and value creation and as a consequence we also expect you to be service-minded and flexible

2. Life Sciences and Arctic & Mining 

The Position 
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified intern to assist the Life Sciences and Arctic & Mining team in Toronto. You will be an integrated part of the team’s daily work, and will be an important contributor on relevant projects. You will get a wealth of experience in the development of business strategies for Danish companies interested in expanding their business activities to Canada as well as Canadian companies with interest in investing in Denmark. 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to: 
- Participate in and support the daily work of the office 
- Support general and sector-specific internal and external communications (e.g. Facebook & LinkedIn posts)
- Support Life Sciences and Arctic & Mining sector Commercial Advisors by carrying out the following activities (varies depending on sector and project):
- Desk and field research
- Meeting planning and support (virtual and/or in-person)
- Preparation of offers and market reports
- Partner searches and preparation of Danish trade delegations
- Participation in fairs
- Event management

The Candidate
- Must currently be enrolled in a Danish educational program with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree (preferably Business Admin. and/ or Communications)
- Interest in healthcare/life sciences and/or developing infrastructure in the Arctic is an asset
- Outspoken, engaged, and a good team player
- Strong work ethic and can work well independently and within a team
- Strong experience in Word, Excel & PowerPoint
- Strong social skills and outgoing personality preferred

More about the Workplace
Our office is located in the centre of Toronto. Toronto is the 4th largest city in North America and considered the commercial capital of Canada. We are a team of 12 ambitious and competent Canadian and Danish employees. We share office facilities with the Swedish and Norwegian Trade Councils which gives us an inspiring work environment and also generates a number of joint Nordic events. We have a very informal and highly energetic work environment where we continuously strive to empower and support each other; working smarter and having fun while achieving our objectives.

Useful information
The internships run for a period of 6 months. Interns will have to apply for a work permit in order to stay and work in Canada.
The interns at the Trade Council will receive no salary during their stay, however, a small reimbursement of travel and living expenses in the amount of DKK 3600 will be paid every month. In order to avoid deductions from the education grants (SU) the intern must be prepared to show documentation for expenses in relation to their stay such as travel costs, insurance, rent, permit fees, local transportation, etc.
