Are you looking for a part-time administrative position? Would you like to work in a Scandinavian office environment? Then perhaps you are our new part-time administrative officer at the Royal Danish Consulate General in Toronto.

 

The Danish Consulate General in Toronto is seeking to recruit a positive and independent individual who will work within our administrative, finance and consular departments. The successful candidate should have prior administrative and bookkeeping experience and must be structured with good attention to detail and willingness to assume routine tasks.

 

You will become an integral part of an office with 14 colleagues working for Denmark and Danish interests. Your main responsibilities will involve day-to-day administrative and finance related tasks, as well as involvement in our consular section and promotion of Danish culture. You will be expected to show the flexibility required for an optimal handling of the entire portfolio of the Consulate General and thus be ready to contribute to handling tasks and events outside your own portfolio.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable including bill payments and staff reimbursements
  • Posting of accounting entries in the Danish governmental finance systems
  • HST refunds through the diplomatic rebate program
  • Compliance within the Danish MFA guidelines for procurement, GDPR and archiving
  • Assist the consular section with passport applications
  • Participate in the planning and promotion of Danish culture and events
  • Ad-hoc tasks as required by the Consulate General

 

Qualifications and personal skills:

  • Degree or diploma in basic accounting or relevant work experience
  • Previous experience with bookkeeping and administration is required
  • IT proficiency and solid skills regarding the entire Microsoft Office program
  • Knowledge of the Danish Government finance systems incl. Navision, RejsUd and SDI is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Fluency in Danish or other Scandinavian language is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage
  • Structured with good attention to details and a well-developed sense of responsibility
  • Flexibility to adapt with the changing needs of the Consulate General
  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Must be able to act with discretion at all times
  • Must have an existing open work permit in Canada

 

Employment conditions:

  • You will be offered a local part time contract valid for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Employment conditions will be based on the Staff Rules of the Mission
  • Your standard working hours will be 20 hours per week with some flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours
  • You will be entitled to five weeks of paid holiday per year
  • Your hourly salary will reflect your qualifications and relevant work experience
  • As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme and group health benefits
  • Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position
  • Employment will be dependent on receiving and maintaining security clearance by the Danish authorities

The chosen candidate will be asked for 2-3 references and must present a “No Criminal Record” from local police and pass security clearance by the Danish authorities prior to appointment.


Expected commencement date: The employment requires security clearance from the Danish authorities, which may take a few months. Employment at the Consulate General will commence as soon as possible after the selected candidate has received security clearance.
