Cultural Diplomacy

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Culture have entered into a collaborative agreement on international cultural exchange, in order to contribute to initiatives that strengthen links between Denmark and the rest of the world via encounters with art and culture. 

The purpose of the collaborative agreement is to promote innovation in Danish art and culture through international collaboration, to market Denmark as a nation and promote cultural export and intercultural dialogue between participants in Denmark and abroad

Under these framework conditions, the Embassy works to promote Danish culture in Canada within the branches of the arts covered by the Ministry of Culture: Film, Architecture, Crafts and Design, Literature, Music, Visual Arts and Performing Arts. 

The Embassy can give general guidelines on cultural exchange between the Kingdom of Denmark and Canada, funding opportunities and artist-in-residence programmes. As a general rule we do not serve as agents, we do not book venues, concerts, performances, exhibitions etc. on behalf of individual artists and performers, unless these are part of a larger project or strategic focus area, where the diplomatic representations and/or cultural government agencies and institutions in Denmark are directly involved either as hosts or sponsors.
