Cultural Activity Funds for Danish Representations and Danish Cultural Institutes
The Danish Ministry of Culture and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs support international cultural collaboration between Danish and foreign actors. The funding scheme has two annual deadlines: 9 February and 13 September at 2:00pm Danish time.
Note that funds for international cultural exchange are available to professional artists and stakeholders only and that they must have a professional affiliation with the Danish art/culture scene.
Participants can apply in collaboration with the embassy. Only applications that fulfil the application criteria and are relevant in a local context will be submitted to Denmark. Please ensure that the application is received by the embassy one week prior to the deadline in Denmark, so there is time for reviewing the application and making possible adjustments.
The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assess applications for grants above 150,000 DKK. Applications for grants up to 150,000 DKK will be assessed by the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces. The Agency will solicit statements from the relevant art centres. These statements will be taken into account when assessing applications.
Projects may not have been commended before the application has been received by the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces.
The total application amount must be 20,000 DKK at a minimum (an application may contain several independent projects, e.g. multiple collaborative projects grouped by the Embassy).
Allocated funds are prioritized for:
- Travelling and accommodation – in respect to the rates of the State
- Local transport
- Communication, documentation and PR
- Electronic Travel Authorization for Canada
- Professional networking event related to the project
The application must contain a project description and budget. We ask that you use the Danish Agency for Culture and Palace’s project description and budget forms, which can be downloaded here: Grant (slks.dk)
It is a requirement that the application budget must contain the project’s major expenditure items and finance plan. The finance plan must include an overview of local and Danish partners’ financial and resourceful investment in the project, any sponsorships or fund grants, as well as self-financing. The budget must contain a clear overview of all budget items applied for through the scheme. All budget items must be listed in DKK.
Processing time:
- Applications up to and including DKK 150,000 are processed within 4 weeks.
- Applications exceeding DKK 150,000 are processed within 8 weeks.
Please note that it is not possible to apply for full financing of projects. The stakeholders in the project are expected to invest own resources in the project. Where possible, primary financing for projects must be sought from other sources, for instance from the Danish Arts Foundation’s Funding programmes (kunst.dk) and local funding sources.
The funding scheme does not support projects taking place in Denmark or projects where the primary content is sport or food/gastronomy. Neither does the scheme support film or media production.
When assessing the application, emphasis is placed on:
- Professional quality
- Collaboration, reciprocity and local interest
- Network and long-term perspective
- Targeted communication

Consideration will be paid to a reasonably distribution of funds among eligible applicants. The Agency will pay out the grant to the embassy as close to the start date provided in the application form. It is advised to match the start date of your project with the date your first expense for the project occurs. All expenses must be settled against invoices submitted to the embassy.
We encourage you to bring forth your ideas for international cultural collaboration. Applications should be mailed to [email protected]
